2021 Road America

From the Team Manager

“St. Petersburg is a tough place for USF2000 Series rookies!  Minimal practice, burly concrete walls, lots of other hungry rookie drivers and even hungrier veteran drivers make this weekend one of the toughest of the year. Spike was up to the challenge and drove like a veteran all weekend with two solid sixth place finishes and leaving as the highest placed rookie in the points at 7th overall. Evan had an admittedly tough weekend getting tagged from behind in the lap one, turn one scramble which resulted in a race 1 DNF.  In race 2, Evan was determined to bring the car home clean and drove a smart and determined race to do just that. The entire team is really excited about heading to Indy and I think we will see both drivers moving up the charts.”

“Going into this weekend I was very excited. I had new ideas for my driving style and a different angle of this track. It was time to put my thinking into real life. In practice we had pace and I proved that I would be battling up front this weekend. In qualifying I put in some solid laps and was very happy with the car. I feel as the car was working with my driving style and this really suited me for this event. I learned how important exits and runs off the turns were and I found this to be the key if I was going to do good in the races. Race 1 I started 4th and had some small battles and ended up getting my first podium of the year finishing in p3. I was super happy with this but I knew I had even more pace and I was ready to show it. In the second race I started in p8 so I had some work to do. On the first lap I got pinched in the middle and made contact with multiple people forcing me to box for a new front wing. I was now in last. Now I really had my work cutout for me! I put my head down and ended up passing 10 cars to finish 8th for some good points. Now I feel great momentum and I’m excited for Mid-Ohio. Once again thanks to everyone who tuned in online for the races. I hope to see some more fans in Ohio. “

“All around great weekend for whole cape motorsports team, including myself. Got a little unlucky with qualifying on Friday missing out on my flying lap caused by a red flag and qualifying p23 in the first session and ultimately not getting the draft I wanted in the second one qualifying p19. However I was excited to race because I knew we had top 15 pace so in race one starting p23 I climbed my way up to p16 with a bent control arm caused by another driver on the first lap. In race 2 it was all about survival, I started p19 and keeping my nose clean and making some good passes along the way I was able to secure a p11 finish to bag my best finish to date. All in all great weekend for myself and the team, we had a fast car all weekend. July 1-4 is the Mid Ohio race where I will be working hard on my qualifying pace.”
