2021 Lucas Oil Raceway

From the Team Manager

“St. Petersburg is a tough place for USF2000 Series rookies!  Minimal practice, burly concrete walls, lots of other hungry rookie drivers and even hungrier veteran drivers make this weekend one of the toughest of the year. Spike was up to the challenge and drove like a veteran all weekend with two solid sixth place finishes and leaving as the highest placed rookie in the points at 7th overall. Evan had an admittedly tough weekend getting tagged from behind in the lap one, turn one scramble which resulted in a race 1 DNF.  In race 2, Evan was determined to bring the car home clean and drove a smart and determined race to do just that. The entire team is really excited about heading to Indy and I think we will see both drivers moving up the charts.”

“Lucas oil raceway was definitely a memorable experience! This was my first oval event I was super excited to show what pace I had. I felt as in previous testing we had the right setup on the car and all I had to do was drive my best. We were running up front right away in practice making small adjustments to the car to make it even better. I was confident going into qualifying. This qualifying is something that I’ve never done before. We had one warm up lap, and then a 2 lap average to determine where we were to start. On my warmup lap I set a blistering lap that was the fastest warmup lap out of everyone. My first and second lap I had 2 big moments. This ultimately had a big impact on where I started so 11th was where we were to start for the race. It was now Race time and I know I had a fast car but I definitely had some work to do. I ended up finishing p11. This was definitely a true learning experience due to being in the maximum grip levels all the way around the circuit. I’m looking forward to racing on more ovals in the future. Now on to Road America.”

Race #1: 16th (+1 lap)

“IRP was a great learning experience, feeling how the car handles in different conditions. One time out it would be super gusty and windy with overcast skies and the next time out it would be no wind with clear skies and those thing really effect how the car handles. Come to qualifying i put in a lap for P18 putting me right behind my teammate Thomas. Come the race I had a really good start gaining 3 positions. For the remainder of the race I battled with my teammate Thomas, challenging him for p14 for 75 laps but ultimately ending up p15. Overall it was a great weekend experience wise because of the constant challenge of constantly being on the edge which is required in order to be fast on an oval..”
